BECKY SORIA
Becky Soria,
American, born in South America, began her artistic career in the 80’s
after being studio trained in painting by South American artists, and
attending the Glassell School of Art in Houston. Her background in
Biology and Medicine influence the subject matter of her paintings.
Her paintings tend to be impressionistic, but abstracted images.
Geometric and organic forms deliberately and accidentally coexist,
where layers of paint and other materials shape and reshape the image
allowing hidden intentions and meanings to appear. Her paintings
express subconscious memories of that state in which we all cross from
the inorganic into the sphere of the living. Many paintings will have,
at first glance, a level of abstraction, but, on further
consideration, one can perceive surreal allusions and nuances combined
with conceptual references; these images often suggest growth, change
and mutation. She seeks to depict these ideas, not as objective
realities, but rather as subjective responses to her reality tunnels.
Her interest has taken her to explore her impressions of current world
events, nature and women issues. |
